PFUJ congress/BDM

PFUJ congress/ BDM is held after every two years. Last BDM was held in Millennium Hotel Lahore on Feb 11, 12, 13, 2022. Secretary General Rana Muhammad Azeem presented activities report of the previous tenure while Secretary Finance Jamil Mirza presented financial report of the previous tenure which was approved by the BDM. Senior KUJ Leader and convener of constitution committee read out amendments in the PFUJ constitution which were unanimously approved to be inducted in the PFUJ constitution.On the second day of the BDM elections were held to elect Federal Executive Council (FEC) for the next two years term.Upload pics, agenda and amendments in constitution.Report of the committee for simplification & amendments of PFUJ Constitution—-November 2021Recommendation for simplification of PFUJ to be considered in AGM-2021Formation of Committee In a project funded by NED, PFUJ and IFJ has done analysis of the PFUJ constitution to evaluate it in comparison of the other democratic organizations. The studies revealed that PFUJ Constitution was a comprehensive one but needed some simplification and amendments. The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) formed a six-member committee to propose amendments in the constitution to be put up in the AGM of the PFUJ for final approval before making these amendments a part of the PFUJ Constitution. The committee comprised of members from different regional unions of country, associated with Print, electronic and digital media and had some knowledge of the constitution. The Committee also has representation of women and young journalist in the six members given below,

Objectives

⦁ To make PFUJ constitution more active and simpler for the members⦁ To make PFUJ with more distributive leadership responsibilities⦁ To clarify the membership categories⦁ To define roles more comprehensively⦁ To strengthen the role of youth in decision making Guidelines to workThe committee had analytical review of the PFUJ constitution done by PFUJ expert and IFJ expert Mr. Jonathan Mill to follow before considering any amendments. Jonathan Mill had proposed some amendments in his review while local expert’s report had suggested some proposals to be introduced. The members also had some feedback from other members to consider.MethodologyMembers were provided copies of the PFUJ constitution and recommendation of the experts from PFU and IFJ along with some exemplary constitutions of other unions. The members would hold online meetings and discuss the proposals and recommendations in detail and adopt them with unanimity. The recommendations had already been discussed in the first phase of the project in five workshops conducted by PFUJ appointed focal persons at five venues in Pakistan. The initial recommendations were discussed and thrashed out in the workshops held at different venues. It was concluded in the workshops that PFUJ constitution should be amended to make it simple and more effective to make it simpler and more comprehensive. Under the guidelines of the workshops and analytical review, the members of the committee held virtual meetings, to discuss the initial work and work to be carried out by the committee.Meeting with IFJ ExpertA virtual meeting with Mr. Jonathan Mill expert of IFJ and Director IFJ-Asia Pacific took place on October 11, 2021, where the committee members shared their work and had a chat to understand the theme of the work to be done. After that meeting the committee again met virtually and came up with the following recommendation. Recommendations for amendments The committee members agreed to put up following recommendations for the AGM to discuss and approve to be inducted in the PFUJ constitution.Preface:The preface of the constitution should be moved to a separate Appendix C at the end. ObjectivesThe objectives of the PFUJ are comprehensive and an important guideline for the PFUJ to work and make strategy to achieve them. A comprehensive strategy be evolved for priority objectives. A separate committee is formed for this to formulate the strategy based on SMART.
